Suicide: act of one's core negation or impulse to form change
Back

Suicide, or intentional taking of one's own life, is interpreted by psychologists as a type of activity driven by reasons injuring personality. Named among such reasons are deep mental distortion, mental disease, circumstances under which the meaning of life is lost.

Yet psychology as science and way of healing is a result of centuries-long evolution of western way of thinking and sensation. It's based on ideological preceptions closely related to Christian subconscious world perception stereotype.

According to Christian religion, suicide is a deadly sin, that's impossible to atone for and that shall not be committed by a person of sound mind and memory. If he does resolve to take his own life, then he is mentally ill (in original perception - possessed by demons). Therefore for a physician - bearer of western culture, just an intention of taking one's own life is enough to produce a psychiatric diagnosis and hospitalize the individual.

Bearer of eastern culture will react to person's decision to end his life in a quite different way. For him the important thing will not be the action itself, but rather the reasons behind it. If the arguments are good enough, and the ritual is perfectly executed, then society will have nothing against suicide.

In a lot of eastern countries, like Japan, there is a traditional set of rules, per which a man has not just a right, but an obligation to voluntarily end his life, if staying alive means loss of honor for him.

So, one and the same way of solving complex personal and social problems is viewed at differently by different cultures. Apologists of eastern and western morality will perceive suicide each in his own way, and may even place it on directly opposite poles.

Let's try to analyze the eastern point of view.

Eastern ideological perceptions are rooted in Hinduistic and expanding it Buddhist subconscious world perception stereotypes. Hence, bearer of eastern culture senses as the only reality reincarnation law and karma law, that drag his core like a river drags a feather or a wood chip.

Being absolutely not free in desires and feelings, a soul nevertheless has a chance to reach the highest enlightenment and merge with Divine Nature, if it learns to go along with the common flow of births and rewards.

The Universe lives and moves, and a soul live and moves together with it. There are significant differences between Hinduistic and Buddhist subconscious stereotypes.

Religious ideal, as declared by Hinduism, is in natural laws obedience and exact fulfillment of purpose given at birth.

God and Universe are wiser and more prescient than a man. A soul should not lose its time fighting the inevitable.

A flow that sucks one into a whirlpool, is the same to carry one out to the surface. Just give yourself up to the flow, don't fuss but float obediently, don't be afraid of neither top, nor bottom.

Subconscious sensational stereotype of a Hindu is based on acceptance of any turn of personal fate without emotional protest. There's simply no time for question "Why?" to arise. An answer to stress is a feeling of "meekness". It should be remembered though, that eastern meekness is not helplessness, but rather a rigid emotional discipline, that doesn't let it get lost on a vicious path, from ideological point of view.

A voiding law violation and moving from life to life, a soul does not harm the existing, is filled with wisdom and, sooner or later, takes its rightful place in Spiritual Universe, or God.

Planted in subconscious stereotype of people brought up by Hinduism are unhurriedness and respect to forms established in nature, human society and individual soul's inner space.

Buddhism does not accept obedience, in its Hinduistic interpretation.

The main purpose of Buddhist subconscious restructuring technologies is speeding-up development of individual soul that wants to pass the wheel of life as soon as possible.

In order to find one's own spiritual evolution, and drag not in the tail of universal process, man should stop identifying himself with surrounding world and wearing masks imposed by society. Then he will finally establish his own spiritual will.

Otherwise, per Buddhism, man is doomed to move along the wheel of births and deaths for eons, and suffer as long.

On the moral scale of Buddhist stereotype suffering occupies the lowest step and is connected to sinfulness of a man sunk in material world. Suffering is directly dependent of soul's "restlessness": presence of desires and dependencies.

Soul's restlessness attracts it to mundane delights and takes it away from enlightened spiritual existence - the only true pleasure and meaning of being.

Reincarnation and karma laws draw one's core along the way known to them only, subdue and keep enslaved. In order to break out from their dictate and set free, it's necessary to stop desiring and getting attracted to things and people, stop loving and hating, learn to live outside the world, while staying in the very middle of it.

Buddhist subconscious world perception stereotype, as well as Hinduistic one, disciplines feelings and doesn't let them gets substantiated in emotional actions. But unlike Hinduistic stereotype, that reveres nature's logic and is addressed to the world, it creates a habit of internal isolation from natural environment, consciousness' concentration on superidea and focusing on hidden features of one's "self'.

Subconscious world perception stereotype makes Buddhist an observer, not a part of material being, thereby developing religious and moral sensation, painted in bright, joyful colors.

In human ordinary Buddhism forms a spiritual aspect, that can approximately be perceived when associated with a part of gifted orphan common in social life.

A spiritual orphan should erect the building of his inner life with his own powers, relying neither on parents' help, nor on subsidies from authorities. Therefore, as he can see no other sources for well-being creation, he inevitably becomes purposeful, independent and very hard-working.

As a compensation such orphan has a lack of external responsiveness and attention to the needs of others - sure, no one ever took interest in himself (excluded are rancor and dissatisfaction only, typical of social type described above).

Suicide is a possibility for such spiritual career maker, if only he expects dividends from it, but in no case in connection with relatives or daily events. He is used to hardships, but a failure to reach the goal he set is inconceivable for him.

There's yet another peculiarity of Buddhist world perception, that gives place to his patient attitude towards suicide as a way of solving personality problems.

Buddhism negates the existence of personality, in western point of view.

Per Buddhism, personality is something like a necklace made up of disconnected mind states, placed by human imagination onto the time thread. Something, that only exists for an instant and disappears of itself in the next moment. Something unworthy of discussion, because disconnected mind states have no worth to them, unless one's approach is preconceived.

An individual does not remember what he used to be yesterday or last year, but only projects today's image of the static screen of his memory. So what's so bad about getting rid of disintegrating form and hostile environment and surrendering to universal flow of change?

If an individual is indifferent to the life and death of his own body, then suicide becomes just one of technologies setting free of it, and can be found sinful, if only the decision has been made in despair or anger, in desire to obtain something or get rid of something. In other cases ...

Why drag on a life with a loss of honor, while testing the durability of soul structure and worsening karma?

According to Buddhist subconscious stereotype, man cannot and should not have the will directed outside and capable of changing environment. He can and should survive alone, rejecting anything coming from outer world, illusive and distracting from the main purposes of being.

If it so happened, that spiritual growth had ceased, it would be more reasonable to drastically alter situation, that is get rid of bodily form and all connected with it. With new birth a new chance is created, and spiritual core saved from destruction will make the next leap in world- and self-perception.

Reflected in suicide problem, like in a mirror, are the differences in views of different cultures on interactions of spiritual core with the world surrounding it.

It was the interpretation of these interactions, and not the concept of "spirituality" itself, that became the stumbling stone from which eastern and western paths of harmonic being discovery separated.

But if the cultures separated, then the laws of psychical, that regulated people's existence on these cultural territories, separated as well.

In psychical reality a spiritual core is wounded or cured not by actions of man, its owner, but by his intention towards himself and the world. By this we mean intention "as a whole" - with all its internal nuances, and not just the conscious part, which frequently contradicts the subconscious.

Psychical reality is not identical to material reality.

It lives in accordance with its own law and is separated from material reality by multichamber gateway of stereotype. The stereotype, that can be thought of as a buffer shielding one's "self', or an information filter, or a bridge connecting one's "self' with the world.

Traditionally, by western culture we used to mean a complex of thinking and sensing ways, based on Christian subconscious world perception stereotype. But the term does not exactly reflect the realities of cultural process.

Christian religion is one of three religious trees with a common root.

And this common root - the basis of western world perception - represents a unified understanding of spiritual core's interaction with the world surrounding it.

In this light Christianity is seen as most western outpost of the vast and diverse continent of western culture, founded on subconscious stereotypes of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Judaism, and Christianity, and Islam view human as a being not only spiritual, but also actively changing surrounding world. Their purpose is to raise nations capable of becoming guides of the will of God and builders of His kingdom on earth.

Subconscious perception stereotype of these religions bearers is comparable to a radar-like construction, oriented on the sky and receiving signal from "above", so as to unquestioningly submit to it their own actions in psychical and material worlds. A sensational form emerges, whereas man carefully listens to something inside and outside, tries to analyze unclear information, experiments and plays with environment.

A man of the west is in a rush, he desires something new all the time and is always discontent with something. Yet he doesn't limit his spiritual search with forms dissolved in nature, but actively invents unusual compositions of known elements and develops his own, human individuality. Renewed subconscious stereotypes, obtained as a result of hard labors, are sure to be tested by him for durability, sharpened in constant ideological and emotional battles with the likes of his own.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam have quite aggressive attitude to each other, for they construct different models of the kingdom of God on earth, and in heaven also. Their clashes are significantly worse, than the ones of western civilization as a whole with eastern civilization, because they divide material world between them, in which subconscious block of eastern culture is not that interested.

Subconscious stereotypes of Jews, Christians and Muslims are rather complementary than uniform. Jews submit to God their reason and through reason they learn His laws. Christians devote feelings to Him and preach love as the highest value of being. Muslims leave on the will of Allah substantiation of their "self' and discipline their social behavior. Still all three religions agree, that man's life belongs to the Supreme Being and man has no right to make decision on his own, whether to live or die.

Western culture clearly views suicide as a sin, but welcomes martyrdom in the name of religious purposes (Judaism, due to its "reasonableness", likes martyrdom less than two other cultures). Death in the name of God can be considered righteous, while suicide defends one's own ego and trespasses property of the one, who is Creator and Master of existence.

But let us go back to Christian subconscious world perception stereotype, on which a colossal building was erected, made up of modern medical technologies of disease healing and prevention, including those in the competence of psychiatrists.

Christianity is probably the only religion on earth, through which a man enters into deepest personal contact with God. Not forced by punishment. Not afraid of being refused for weakness. As beloved son with beloved father. As loving vessel bearing loving filling.

Is it possible to break a vessel, and spill not the filling?

Suicide is an act of love negation, an act of rejecting God. Taking the greatest reservoir of love from love is possible, if only it's made to feel that love is not mutual. So why worry that the one who committed suicide will forever stay alone in the darkness? And is there a worse fate?

For Christian love is the essence of God and being, the essence of his own soul and spirit. All his life he learns to love, so that the will of God could enter his heart. Committing to suicide he rejects all at once - eternal life, and Universe's harmony, and future where violence is impossible, and his own self.

God created man's spirit free, and man can make any choice. But the choice he makes will stay with his soul and put it under conditions it itself has created. Only man himself can change the erroneous decision - a heartfelt repentance will atone for any sin, but can a suicide repent in time, he who deprived himself of God's given time with his own actions.

In order not to betray God, one should learn to endure suffering and fears and run away from battlefield. Despondency is one of the worst Christian sins. Subconscious Christian sensational . stereotype forms "meekness", that is a weapon in ideological battles. Contrasted with Hinduistic version, it bears in it a challenge to existing world order, that's based on violence. Meekness, Christian type is the corner stone of new world model, where stronger serves weaker, and weaker in turn trusts stronger to lead himself on the winding roads of spiritual maturing.

For good to be victorious, Christian should learn to carry flame inside, which burns him bitterly and asks out, and should not take into account that he could be weaker than his enemy. The exploit of Christ itself is an act of demonstrating spiritual power, that relies on spiritual will and changes society. An act of neglecting material world postulates, that only work as long as they are obeyed.

Developing subconscious world perception stereotype, strengthening it in the fight against fears and spiritual weakness, Christians all around the world use a formula, that's humiliating to earthly reality: "trampling down death by death".

The goal of a man walking the path of Christ is not only to grow spirituality itself in him. His main purpose is to develop inner force that is capable of fertilizing spirituality of anyone it comes in touch with. This force should change earthly life, full of hypocrisy and sin, into the kingdom of God, "on earth as it is in heaven".

Nature's logic, the logic of polygon ruled by violence, is the biggest enemy of every Christian. Nature's life isn't Christian, it makes the master of the strong, but amoral. Rewards victory to the smart, but unfair. Gives pleasure to the rich, but lacking compassion.

Nature itself is deprived of love, in Christian meaning of the word.

It was only by the end of twentieth century, that man of Christian world, entranced by success of science, understood that he got it wrong, with nature. It's easier destroyed than he ever thought. And on the ruins of it the Kingdom of God did not blossom, on the contrary, a society emerged, that looks pretty much like hellish dwelling.

Intellectual, who neglected emotional nuances as something of little significance, found out, that he didn't exactly perceive Christian truth. Perhaps he underestimated the value of "Judge not" commandment. Indeed, "judge not" includes a notion, that logic of a man, who differs from yourself in his views, could contain a grain of truth too. For it was not without a reason that God trusted man to become strong, or clever, or rich.

True, quality called "tolerance" finally found its place in western culture's world perception stereotype. That is why in diagnosis of people inclined to suicide, they write names of diseases instead of "possessed by demons", and heal instead of torturing with chains, so as to rip the patient out of the clutches of devilry at the price of martyrdom.

Subconscious sensational stereotypes are extremely conservative, and one-two generations are not enough to transform them. A lot of terrible is yet to take place in the world, before man spiritual stops viewing nature as an opposing force. Before he perceives, that not nature, with its laws complementary to spiritual, is the obstacle in the way of a dream for the kingdom of God on earth, but his own ignorance in psychical sphere.

Perceives and ceases fighting something that was given to help him. But for the time being a simpler problem is facing humanity. In the nearest future it should learn to combine logic of different cultures and stop judging them from "true-false" position. Then probably we'll start moving in cultural space not only horizontally - from past into the future, but also vertically - from God's design to various forms of spiritual and material substantiation.

Suicide is also a form of design substantiation, but of human design.

And as a form of substantiation it implements the original purpose with more or less perfection.

As design goal is set, so will be its psychical consequences.

If for bearers of one culture suicide is an act of one's own core destruction, then, unfortunately, it leads to most unpleasant consequences. Whereas for bearers of other culture suicide is just an attempt to change form and is dangerous neither for society, nor for individual soul.
